Fantastic Voyage: Hookworm Thumbnails. 1-17

These are some of my Initial Ideas for my Hookworm design. I want to make my animation a little bit more Science Fiction and dark, as I am not trying to target younger children, I am aiming for Older people who Like me get much more invested in things and learn more when a topic or lesson has some form of scary or dark theme to it. 

Right now my designs are incredibly Alien-esque which is a problem, I was just having a bit of fun with the drawings and seeing what they would come out like. I want to use Alien as an influence but this may be a bit too close. Tell me what you think.

As you can see I am going for the sharper, more threatening design with my worm, and having them grow and sprout out of eggs at the start of the Animation before the rest of the story Continues. 

These drawing's were done quickly with charcoal, as I wanted to try and get a feel for the shapes of the worm and the way it may move when animated. 

These designs are the last few before I start to actively move away from the Alien design and try some more Ideas. I like these designs a lot and it will be hard to choose something else, but we will see in the coming days.

A little Design I made in Illustrator and Photoshop by just playing around with shapes.

This image shows examples of the different tools that we had to experiment with In this afternoon's session.

The top left shows how you can rotate different shapes around a point and then color them individually to create a unique design. To get the spiral effect coming off the design, I used the transform tool, to create a few copies of the Image and rotate it, into the design you see.

The next design is a swatch, created by turning the initial design into a pattern and then placing it into a newly created shape.

Next we used the Pen tool and stroke tool to create different linear designs.

The two images in the middle show how you can create interesting shapes and designs using the Mesh tool. Moving them around the shape, changes the way the gradient interacts with the surface, giving a possible 3d Effect if done correctly.

The final design is simply creating a bunch of shapes and then merging some together to form different shapes or larger variations of the same shape.

life drawing session: 04/03/2015

Today in Life drawing we decided to mix things up a bit and try some newer ways of creating work . Starting with our usual quick drawings to get used to our model before we go in and start with the more adventurous work.

The first two images you see are my quicker drawings. I have noticed that over the past few weeks I have been getting much better with my proportions and am generally able to get them right, right off the bat without too much problem. I have also started to speed up, being able to get the full body into my drawings, whereas I used to only get a small amount completed in the short times we were given.

Once we had gotten used to our model, we were introduced to some.... unusual materials, which Phil had so graciously acquired for us to use. Ranging from Sponges to Toothbrushes and some unusual toilet brush....thing. Using color this time as opposed to my usual, dark, pencil drawings. This is very unnatural to me, but I gave it a shot and ended up with the image below this paragraph. Made with a sponge and a toothbrush, then drawing in the body over the top.

The last exercises we needed to complete were designed for us to lose some control over our work. Something that I like to have. By attaching our materials to the ends of sticks, we were stood further away and had to just work with what we could do and see what we could get in the end. 

Finally we all had to create a piece with our chosen instrument, and then rotate around the room and use someone else's material and add to their work.. resulting in this..

Plus this jumping man as bonus. (the best thing I've made by accident)

Non Manipulated sounds:


These are the Non Manipulated Sound's that I collected for my Soundscapes. They vary from simple sounds like me dragging my nails along my desk, rain and wind and then some more complicated sounds like the electricity I needed to record for my first image. I was able to get a recording of this noise by running up to my old secondary school and asking to sit in with some of the younger students who were playing around with some circuits and electrical equipment.
